Is the course hilly? The Girly Girl has some rolling hills through quiet streets of Bellevue. The Middle Sister offers a few more rolling hills without the challenging climbs of the Burly Girl. The Burly Girl has all of that plus some challenging climbs.
Should I be worried about the hills on these courses? Cycle the WAVE is in September. After a long summer of good weather for steady training you can be prepared for any of these rides!
How will I know which way to go? All rides are marked on the pavement with our special Cycle the WAVE “W” pointing right, left, straight or wrong way. They will be painted on the road near the right shoulder. Generally, they will be painted 100 feet before a turn followed by a 2nd marker approximately 20 feet before the turn and a 3rd route marker approximately 10 feet after the turn. Additional sandwich board signs will be posted.
Is there a map of the ride I can use on the day of the ride? Yes, each rider will receive a cue sheet with a map on the opposite side of the page at packet pick up.
What kind of refreshments will be at the rest stops? Each rest stop has a signature specialty with loads of great food, water stations, our special “Pretty Potties”, and our enthusiastic WAVE volunteers ready to cheer you on!
Can someone help me with my bike at the rest stop? Yes, in addition to good food and friendly volunteers, each rest stop will have a local bike shop mechanic available for mechanical problems.
Can I use a bike trailer? Unfortunately with the amount of climbing and descending on sometimes narrow shoulders and in one spot a narrow downhill sidewalk, we do not feel that our courses are suitable for a bike trailer.
